What sets Miu Miu eyewear apart

The Prada Group describes Miu Miu as the freest expression of Miuccia Prada's creativity, deliberately far from traditional images of beauty. The eyewear follows that idea with shapes that are slightly off the usual: a low, stretched front, a rimless oval, an oversized geometric frame with bold volumes.

Miu Miu's own product sheets give examples among our models. The Miu Glimpse MU 09WS is an acetate rectangle with a very low front, with the vertical logo built into the hinge. The Miu Regard MU 11ZS has thin rims and very flat lenses in a recycled bio-acetate frame. The MU A54S is a very light metal frame with rimless oval lenses and adjustable nose pads.

• Acetate optical frames: the MU 01X in black, honey or tortoise and gold, the MU 01XV (honey havana), the MU 09XV (black) and the MU 53WV (pale gold and clear).
• Black acetate sunglasses: MU 09WS Glimpse, MU B05S Glimpse, MU 01Y, MU C02S and MU C03S.
• Tortoise and honey: MU 11ZS Regard, MU A06S and MU 04ZSF.
• Mirrored lenses: the MU 54ZS in pale gold with a pink mirror, or in gold with a gradient blue mirror.
• Metal and rimless: MU A54S (gold), MU A51 (gold and brown, a wide shield) and MU 52Y (silver).

How we fit Miu Miu frames with your lenses

In our selection, many Miu Miu frames have fairly small lenses: 50 mm on the MU 01X, with an 18 mm bridge. The lens width plus the bridge gives the distance between the frame's centres, here 68 mm. Our optician compares it with your pupillary distance, measured with a pupillometer and a ruler. The closer those two numbers are, the less the optical centre has to be moved, and the thinner the edges stay with a strong prescription. That is why a small, thick acetate frame is often a good choice when the prescription is strong.

For sunglasses, Miu Miu's site lists the Glimpse MU 09WS and the Regard MU 11ZS as not compatible with prescription lenses, while the Glimpse MU B05S and the MU A54S are compatible. The rimless MU A54S needs drilled lenses, in a material suited to drilling, and its adjustable nose pads let the optician centre it on your nose. Acetate frames without nose pads are adjusted by warming the temples. For progressive lenses in a low front, the optician checks the available height before ordering; some progressive designs are made for shallow frames.

Questions about Miu Miu glasses

Can Miu Miu sunglasses take prescription lenses?

Some can, according to Miu Miu's product sheets; others, such as the Glimpse MU 09WS, are listed as not compatible. Does a Miu Miu frame work with a strong prescription?

Often, yes. Small acetate frames hide part of the lens thickness, and a thinner high-index lens keeps the edges slimmer. Rimless models are less suited to very strong prescriptions.

Is PrimeVision an authorized Miu Miu dealer?

Do I need an eye exam first?
