Nikon lenses in Montréal
PrimeVision, an optometry clinic and eyewear store at 9520 Boulevard de l'Acadie in Montréal, is an authorized Nikon lens dealer. Nikon, a Japanese maker of optical instruments, also makes spectacle lenses; our optician picks the design that suits your prescription and your days.
Where Nikon lenses come from
Nikon was founded in Tokyo on July 25, 1917, as Nippon Kogaku K.K. It launched an ophthalmic lens, the Pointal, as early as 1946. Since January 2000, Nikon spectacle lenses have come from Nikon-Essilor Co., Ltd., a 50/50 joint venture between Nikon and Essilor International.
Nikon lens families
- SeeMax: personalized lenses.
- Presio: progressive lenses; Presio Power Z favours smooth transitions, Presio Wide Z a wider field for close work.
- Relaxsee: lenses designed for digital lifestyles and screen use. See our article on computer glasses.
- SeeCoat: lens coatings, including SeeCoat Next, a coating in the Nikon range, and SeeCoat Drive, designed for night driving. See our articles on anti-reflective coating and glasses for night driving.
The Nikon range varies from country to country, so the optician confirms which designs the lab offers in Canada for your prescription before ordering.
How we measure for a Nikon lens
A personalized lens is only as precise as its measurements. The optician measures each eye's pupillary distance with a pupillometer and the fitting height with a ruler, with the frame adjusted on your face. For a progressive, the optician checks that the frame leaves enough height for the reading zone; for a strong prescription, a thinner material is suggested (our article on lens materials compares the options). At pickup, the frame is adjusted, and you can come back for an adjustment later. Our progressive glasses guide covers the rest.
